The Horse Health Promoting Benefits of Essential Oils
Back in 2011, my mare Pokey lost control of her hindquarters. Essential oils were one of the things I did, along with changing her diet and lifestyle that I attribute to her going from multiple recommendations of euthanasia to still being here with me today. Naturally, my first mission after seeing Pokey’s results was researching how the essential oils worked.
From my studies, I was really left quite shocked that I was not taught the facts, truth, and science behind them much sooner. The biggest reason I believe the benefits are not more commonly known is due to fear and regulation. Natural remedies and practitioners are watched and regulated under a pretty big thumb. So you need to do your own homework to discover the truth and find the facts because they are there.
My 3 Favorite Benefits of Essential Oils
- Frequency- This is one of those topics that most people steer away from because they don’t understand it or say they don’t believe in it. Your horse’s body and really all living things have a frequency, and often times when an illness is present or in times of injury the body needs the frequency to be increased. For those who want a more scientific understanding of this idea, I recommend The Body Electric by Robert O. Becker, M.D., and Gary Selden. This book is based on the human body but can help you begin to understand the science around electromagnetism and the body.
- pH – essential oils have an alkalizing effect on the body. Which if you have not yet looked into the benefits of pH balance and health, I highly recommend the book The Battle for Health is Over pH by Gary Tunsky. Again this book is based on human health, there are many principles in the book that will help you understand that pH in the body is very important to overall health and wellness.
- Emotional Benefits- To understand how essential oils shift emotions, we need to know how the brain handles emotions. The answer lies in the limbic system. The limbic system is considered the center of emotions in the brain, it has a direct connection to the olfactory nerve which is responsible for the sense of smell. Have you ever had a smell bring back memories or strike an emotion? This is why. Therapeutic grade essential oils can break the blood-brain barrier and access the limbic system. They can help increase the frequency of cells which can trigger a pattern interrupt and can help access and release emotions that sometimes other options and methods cannot.
These are just a few of the reasons I choose to utilize essential oils in my horse’s care routine to promote overall well being. I would love to share more with you on how you too can experience the same results I have personally with my herd, and that I have been able to help hundreds of horse owners across the country and around the world.
