Aural Plaque in Horses – The Traditional View
This week’s featured topic is aural plaque in horses. We selected this topic in response to a horse owner who reached out with a question via Facebook. Here at Equine Essential Wellness, we focus on empowering horse owners to take control of horse health through natural horse care. Today’s post we will give a basic look of what the traditional view of aural plague looks like, then throughout the week, we will share the more natural view and approach that we view it from and how we would work to support the horse’s health through health concerns such as aural plague.
The image above is from www.thehorse.com, you can click here to read their article titled “Could a Cream Eliminate Equine Aural Plaques?”. It shares some insight into a more traditional view of treatment and care and explores if the use of creams and ointments can bring relief and treatment.
A similar look and viewpoint can be seen on the FootHills Mobile Veterinary Service site with their post on aural plaque. Click Here to go to their post.
Our Overview of Aural Plaque in Horses
When viewing from a completely traditional view and from the research I have done and material I have read, I would explain aural plaque as a result of papilloma viral infection due to biting insects that are carrying the viral infection. The lesions are caused by the body’s chronic inflammatory response and are an unsightly cosmetic issue for some horses and a painful discomfort for others.
If left to what is presented traditionally a horse owner is to conclude that aural plaque is a result from external forces, beyond the scope of prevention, and that topical pharmaceuticals varying in side effects are the only option for treatment and prevention. This look gives me a similar feeling as I had almost 5 years ago when I was told that euthanasia was my mare’s only and best option and nothing could be done to improve her health… just like I did not believe it then, I do not believe it now.
Natural horse health and horse care has solutions that can and should be looked into and utilized. Throughout this week we will share some of those options with you in hopes of empowering you with ideas and information you didn’t have before.
