Now some might read that title and think, but I’m already fulfilled and satisfied with all the time spend with my horse…
But I’m curious, do you ever feel aimless, uncertain, or maybe even incompetent when it comes to sessions with your horse?
I know I do… sometimes it seems the pressure is on to train as efficiently or effectively as the pros. To be the next Pat or Linda Parelli, Mustang Maddy, Clinton Anderson, or alike.
Back when I used to regularly compete and work with trainers, I definitely experienced more confidence, clarity, and purpose in my time with horses.
But as time with my personal horses has become more recreation and relaxation, and as I have gotten older things have shifted.
Has that happened to you? Maybe you don’t feel as certain and directed as you once were with your horse. You might question your experience, knowledge, and path.
Possibly not, it could just be me…
How I define the success of my time with my horses is, if they start off our session choosing to be with me, they find connection, calmness, and responsiveness during our time together, and we wrap it up with them desiring more time together – then the experience is a win.

Whether it’s a trail ride, groundwork, liberty, or anything in between that is my set intention.
What I found after I adopted my Mustangs is I felt sporadic, overwhelmed, and quite frankly a hot mess around my horses. That doesn’t translate to fulfillment or satisfaction.
Because of that fact, I have found a resolution that has helped me find clarity, track my progression, and reignite the fun and passion in my horse time again.
Visualize, Plan, & Reflect
Because my mission is to empower horse owners with the tools and resources they need to get their horse looking and feeling their best, I wanted to share 3 quick tips to help you feel more fulfilled and satisfied with your horse sessions.
Let’s check out these quick tips so you can put them into action.
- Take a moment to visualize what you want to do, achieve, and experience with your horse. Write them out and visualize them as if they have already happened. This is a great practice to do before sessions, or really every single day.
- Set 3 goals or intentions for your session of what you want to cover, teach, or refine with your horse.
- Reflect on your session. The highlights and growth opportunities. Jot them down and decide what you can do to become more of who your horse needs you to be. Make a plan of how you can improve and when your next session time comes, begin again at step #1.
Making a habit to visualize, plan, and reflect on all your sessions will empower you with increased clarity, deepened connection with your horse, and bring more fulfillment to the journey of being a horse owner!
I know as I have implemented these steps with my sessions, my motivation and desire to be with my horses has improved and reignited.
